S.H.

This book has been conceived as a catalogue for the exhibition “S.H.: Trails of the Observer (December 10, 2024 – February 20, 2025)” at the ETL Gallery. Mr. S.H., who is featured in this exhibition, was born and grew up in Toyama Prefecture and worked as a surveyor for many years. At some point in his life, he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Toyama Prefecture a number of times and, in 2008, he started keeping a mysterious record. It was a record of his inner self: a record of what was happening inside his body, composed of dates, pictures, and text, much like a diary. Between 2008 and 2011, S.H. compiled this record into an extensive 288-page notebook.
