Shizuka Tatsuno is active mainly in product design, including furniture, lifestyle products and fashion accessories. This book was published to coincide with the her first exhibition. The subject of this book, Plum (Ume) Candy, was created as a series of artworks for the exhibition.
I made works with colors taken from the branches of a plum tree using ‘kusakizome’, a plant-based dyeing technique. In these works, the colors are trapped in ame, hard candy. The ‘color’ of the plants changes with the seasons and the tree's age. The ‘texture’ of hard candy changes as it melts and crystallizes. This book is a record of the works that I encountered at ‘that moment’. — Shizuka Tatsuno
